Assuming Hernandez and Antonio are both fit they should both start and playing 5 at the back is not needed at home to Swansea so I would got back to a 443.
Hart
Cresswell. Fonte. Reid. Zabaleta
Kouyate. Rice. Noble
Arnatovic. Hernandez. Antonio
Adrian Masuaku Ogbonna Byram Lanzini Carroll Sakho

I understand you Hammer and Pickle. My thoughts were how to make the team more offensive, a bit like Stubbo was saying. We are best with 3 CBs and 2 wing backs. Then we seem to need 2 defensive midfielders, I guess no single defensive midfielders is considered good enough, then again lack of options is also a problem. Anyway, that is 7 in the team basically defending, it is crazy. Noble is a bit more attacking and Arthur is better at going forward than Cresswell. So my thoughts were they can defend well enough, but give us better opportunities to attack. A more extreme level of this would be to go to wing forwards that are also expected to defend, like Stubbo says, Antonio back in a wing back / forward position...

I find it really hard to get the balance right in our team on account of not having a decent defensive midfielder who can truly play the role of destroyer.
We need to be transitioning to one Defensive Midfielder if we're to persist with this 3 at the back (not 3 and 2), but we just don't have the personnel.
The squad is built around playing 4 at the back, and it shows. Trouble is he now can't go back to 4 at the back owing to the early season disasters, but it leaves us in a sticky spot once we have all of Lanzini, Arnautovic, Antonio, and Hernandez fit.
Either Antonio is going to have to play at wing back, or Lanzini is going to have to play alongside Kouyate or Obiang in centre mid.
Obiang has the intelligence and discipline for the role so that is probably the path we should take, with Kouyate moving central in the back 3 to be the athletic central defender that can drive forward with the ball, flanked by Reid and Ogbonna for balance who can drift out and cover the wide as needed.

Whichever players start on Saturday old silly bollocks is bound to play at least 2 or three of them out of position.

Much as I like the general idea of Mex's team, that flank of Arnie, Musauko and Ogbonna would come back to haunt my nights...

Sorry on Stoat's team I read Arthur as Ayew, which is probable how I would start.

Against Swansea at home
The Stoat 12:51 seems pretty good as a 442. (Swansea have scored three league goals this year, two of which were against Crystal Palace.)
Carroll has done well against them and I would like to see Hernandez play off someone. Let two players play where they can do the most damage.
Full backs stay home as we will have some attacking wingers. (Maybe Ogbonna for Fonte)
If Lanzini get minutes he can replace a forward. Antonio on for Ayew if the result is in doubt.
(If we go three at the back Hernandez in the centre but its Swansea at home)

bollocks Obiang is out. That means fucking Noble playing. Back to 10 men and giving the ball away time after time. FFS

Lanzini is not back until after thre international break. Hopefully Obiang takes the place of Noble so we can play with 11 from the start. If he loses this one he is gone

When we play 3 cbs i dont understand why we play wing backs and wingers aswell! Putting crossed in should be the wing backs job. Go two upfront with someone playing just behind them and let the wingbacks occupy the wide areas.

Re: Team for Swansea

I'd be tempted to revert to 4 at the back, only because I see no place in the team for our best player (Lanzini) if we're playing 3 at the back with 2 wingbacks. That's unless Bilic decides Lanzini can play somewhere other than his best position.
I'd play 4 at the back against the shitter teams, and 3 at the back against the better teams. Almost the opposite of what we're doing now.
